The Tillicoultry West Kirk Session was formed in 1929 when the United Free Church united the Church of Scotland. In 1956 the church was linked with Coalsnaughton and was united with the Church of Scotland's Tillicoultry St Serf's in 1976. The church then closed in 1982 and was converted into sheltered housing.

The church building was erected in c.1840, made of brick and slate, in a meeting house style with two storeys.

Tillicoultry South was originally a General Associate Synod (Antiburgher) congregation formed in 1797. Their first minister was inducted in 1801. The congregation followed other Associate congregations into the United Secession Church in 1820 and became part of the United Presbyterian Church in 1847. On the union with the Free Church in 1900 the congregation took the name Tillicoultry South to distinguish it from the original Free Church, Tillicoultry North. The two congregations were united in 1912 to become Tillicoultry.

Tillicoultry United Free Church was formed when the two Free Church congregations in the area, Tillicoultry South and Tillicoultry North, united in 1912. The church then united with the Church of Scotland in 1929, and became known as Tillicoultry West.

The church at Tillicoultry was dedicated to St Serf. It was once part of the Abbey of Cambuskenneth. Between 1581 and 1682 the parish of Alva was united to Tillicoultry. After the union of 1929 the congregation was known as Tillicoultry St Serf's until its union with Tillicoultry West in 1976.

On the union with the Free Church in 1900, the Tillicoultry United Presbyterian congregation took the name Tillicoultry South to distinguish it from the original Free Church, known as Tillicoultry North. These two congregations were later united in 1912 to become Tillicoultry United Free Church.

In 1929, on the union with the Church of Scotland, the church then became known as Tillicoultry West.
